One tooth at a time.
Flossing can be a quick, effective way to keep your mouth healthy. The American Dental Association suggests flossing once a day to remove the plaque and other debris you cannot reach by just brushing, alone.
But do you wonder if you are doing it correctly? Follow these simple steps, along with watching this video courtesy of Howcast, to ensure you are properly flossing your teeth.
How to Properly Floss Your Teeth
- Choose your floss. Waxed floss will glide easily between your teeth.
- Break off about 18 inches of floss, and wind it around your index fingers, holding it tightly with your thumbs.
- Look in a mirror to help guide the floss between two of your teeth by using a gentle rubbing motion.
- Slide the floss carefully into the space between the gum and the tooth, and curve the floss into an almost c-shape against the tooth.
- Move the floss up and down along the side of the tooth, moving away from the gum with an up and down motion.
- Repeat on the rest of your teeth, changing the area of the dental floss you are using, as you continue the process.
- Rinse with mouthwash or water.
- Smile!
